Job Description


The Software Applications Engineer’s role is to act as the primary liaison between Technical Services and select business departments in support of the department's business applications. Software application engineers will be responsible for a portfolio of business applications.  This position will require working closely with fellow Technical Services team members and internal customers to identify and translate business process needs and requirements into actionable application deployment and solution opportunities for the organization.



  • Provide support, which may include administrating, maintaining, and troubleshooting application software, backend servers, and supporting technical infrastructure.
  • Help ensure applications are properly configured, maintained, and operated to meet organizational security requirements. 
  • Serve as an escalation point to the help desk to support end users and resolve more complex issues.
  • Help document issue resolution and provide the help desk with solutions to common issues. When needed, design, deliver, and improve in-house documentation, associated training programs, and related courseware.
  • Representing Technical Services, serve as the technical liaison to the business line, and between United Bank and the application vendor or software provider.
  • When major upgrades or new solutions are needed, work with business units to help plan, design, launch, and support efficient technology solutions. Help ensure new applications are properly designed and implemented to meet organizational security requirements.
  • Within portfolio of applications, provides support for specialized ancillary application hardware such as printers, scanners, signature pads, etc.
  • Utilize established tracking systems and/or develop tracking systems to account for the existence and status of specialized business line software applications; e.g. employee utilization, licenses, O.E.M., version level, release level, fix level, patch level, and operating documentation.
  • Using in-depth knowledge of the solution and environment, actively look for ways to enhance performance of all new and existing software and applications.
  • Conduct research on hardware and software products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts.
  • Assist Technical Services Change Management staff to define, create, and follow change management procedures for applications within portfolio.
  • Where necessary, coordinate and perform in-depth testing, end-user reviews, etc., to enhance and optimize solutions and resolve issues.
  • Communicate application problems and issues to key stakeholders, including management, development teams, end users, and unit leaders.


  • College diploma or university degree in the field of science, math, engineering, or general studies and/or 5 years equivalent work experience.
  • Working knowledge of Project Management concepts.
  • Familiarity with overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software and hardware solutions, systems, or products.
  • Knowledge of overseeing the linking of cross-functional applications between disparate business units and systems.
  • Experience with securing integration scenarios using appropriate authentication, authorization, non-repudiation, and data encryption methods.
  • Strong knowledge of system and software quality assurance best practices and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of relational database design and management techniques.

  • Ability to sit, stand, kneel, and bend for extended periods of time.
  • Sufficient dexterity of hands and fingers to efficiently operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools, and other computer components.
