The Compliance Officer is responsible for ensuring United Brokerage Services, Inc. is compliant with all regulations, policies and department procedures.  This position will be responsible for providing all necessary advice, training and risk assessment pertaining to the respective areas. The Compliance Officer will utilize technical and subject matter expertise to collaborate with the Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) on the development, coordination and ongoing implementation of the Broker/Dealer / Registered Investment Advisor (BD/RIA) Compliance Programs. The Compliance Officer will also lead, organize and maintain registration, licenses, and appointments.  


  • Perform testing and branch reviews to ensure compliance with various securities and insurance laws and regulations according to FINRA.
  • Identify and provide control recommendations on testing findings for implementation.
  • Maintain registrations, licenses and appointments of all Brokerage and Dual Employees. 
  • Responsible for development of required training for Broker / Dealer personnel to comply under FINRA regulations.
  • Gather data and prepare required regulatory filings in a timely manner on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
  • Responsible for working with internal and external auditors to ensure successful audit outcomes.
  • Responsible for preparing and distributing various levels of management communications.
  • Attend Risk and Compliance meetings to present area reports and represent the department as needed.
  • Responsible for reviewing, interpreting and applying new laws and regulations impacting the Broker / Dealer operation upon final authorization from the CCO.
  • Research, investigate, and prepare documentation regarding potentially suspicious activity from AML software generated cases.
  • Perform analysis of suspicious activity using knowledge of BSA and other regulatory guidelines to formulate a conclusion within a clear and concise investigation report.
  • Work effectively with multiple complex data sources and technical analytical tools and resources.
  • Develop familiarity with United Bankshares, Inc. products, services, customers, geographic locations, and potential money laundering and terrorist financing risks associated with those activities.
  • Conduct ongoing review and self-education of banking regulation changes related to BSA/AML, OFAC and the USA Patriot Act.
  • Continue professional education through department provided training and external courses.



  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience working in a Brokerage environment required.
  • Ability to attain Series 7, Series 66 and Insurance licenses within one year of employment is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to consistently represent the Bank in a professional manner.
  • Ability to read and interpret legal documents.
  • Ability to comprehend, interpret written laws and regulations and other technical documents.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detailed oriented, excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations required.
