he Director of Institutional Services will lead a team and be responsible for the management and growth of the Institutional line of business in the Wealth and Investment Management Division. This individual will serve as the division thought leader and key internal and external resource in understanding trends of all 401(k) and institutional marketplace segments. They will be instrumental in growing our offering by continuously assessing the competitive landscape and determining United’s Institutional Services strategy and focus.



  • Responsible for full management of staff recruiting and hiring, development, coaching, performance management, recognition, and disciplinary actions
  • Meeting new business development goals within the Institutional Line of Business
  • Accountable for the full scope of account management of assigned customers
  • Participates in the strategic planning and decision making for the group
  • Responsible for annual and periodic review of accounts to ensure compliance is met 
  • Responsible for leading client meetings for investment reviews, participant education/enrollment, updating plan documents, etc.
  • Participating in business development activities as needed, including consultant, plan sponsor and retirement plan advisor calls and meetings
  • Communicating with third party record keepers and TPAs on an ongoing basis to ensure that all necessary tests are performed, government filings are made, etc. Also act as liaison between clients and TPA
  • Drafting content and managing production of sales collateral, RFP responses, introductory letters, and outreach campaigns
  • Conducting competitive fee analysis and industry research to serve as a subject-matter expert on relevant topics; respond to ad-hoc questions and requests on products, services, and trends
  • Cultivating and nurturing our referral network comprised of attorneys, employee benefit professionals, advisors, service providers, and plan sponsors
  • Staying knowledgeable about Retirement Plans, ERISA, fiduciary issues, and DOL Regulations
  • Maintaining close proximity to prominent account or market needs, industry and market trends and developing the growth strategy for targeted accounts, industries, or specialties to ensure appropriate solutions are marketed and proposed to target new clients and expand the client base


  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • MBA or advanced degree in Finance or related fields strongly preferred
  • Minimum of twelve (12) years’ investment management and fiduciary portfolio management experience required
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in leading teams required
  • Professional/Industry designations is a plus
  • Strong knowledge of institutional products and services is required 
  • Expert proficiency in Microsoft Office Products
  • Strong proficiency with research/analytics tools 
  • Flexibility to accommodate work outside normal business hours required
  • Ability to travel up to 25% 
  • Advanced understanding of fiduciary wealth management principles required
  • Strong, successful track record that meets or exceeds goals set consistently
  • Client-centric with excellent strategic thinking ability and consultative skills
  • A proven ability to successfully coach and mentor direct reports as well as work collaboratively with internal partners to drive a commercial business plan and meet aggressive deadlines
